Corrective Exercises

Corrective exercises are the use of bodily movements and/or postures to restore desirable changes in diseased or injured tissues. The corrective exercises are movement strategies that minimize or eliminate compensation. Corrective exercises should precede more integrated exercises, because they can cue the patient’s motor system to respond in a more desirable way and assist in removing or improving biomechanical constraints.

X-Rays Marrero, LA

X-Rays

One of the most important elements of chiropractic care is diagnostics. Chiropractic radiology is a tool utilized in care as a diagnostic practice to rule out pathology (such as possible tumor or fracture) and/or an additional aid to determine where to adjust the spine. Chiropractors rely on a variety of diagnostic techniques in order to fully understand what is occurring in the patient’s musculoskeletal system, and how a given treatment intervention could bring about positive results in each patient.

Spinal Screenings Marrero, LA

Spinal Screenings

Sometimes all that stands between your daily pain and a happier, healthier you, is a chiropractic adjustment. Your body naturally wants to be in alignment, and our daily activities can throw what is naturally aligned out of balance. Also known as chiropractic manipulation, manual manipulation, or spinal manipulation, chiropractic adjustment refers to the manipulation of the vertebrae that have abnormal movements and are not functioning properly. Here at Barataria Chiropractic, we can help you achieve balance and proper alignment, giving you relief and improving your health.

Our goal in treating your joint and spinal issues is to reduce subluxation, increase range of motion, reduce nerve irritability, and improve mobility. Our highly skilled chiropractor will work with you to relieve your pain and get you back to living a pain free and healthy lifestyle.

Spinal Decompression Marrero, LA

Spinal Decompression

Spinal decompression is a non-invasive mechanical procedure performed within our office to help alleviate back pain. It involves gently stretching the spine to take pressure off the spinal discs (the cushions that separate the vertebrae in the spine). By relieving this pressure, bulging discs can retract back into place which takes pressure off the nerves in the spine. By decompressing the spine, it permits water, oxygen and other fluids to work their way back into the discs allowing them to heal naturally. Spinal decompression is an excellent option for anyone with chronic back pain who wants to get back to living a pain-free life as quickly as possible.

Diversified Technique

The Diversified Technique is popular among chiropractors, because it is a catch all for basic chiropractic adjusting. The goal of the Diversified Technique is to reduce nerve interference. There are no special or unique procedures needed. Patients are assessed using these various mechanisms: history and basic examination (orthopedic and neurologic), palpation, x-ray, leg checks and reflex procedures as well as others.

The procedure involves analyzing the full spine and extremities. The majority of adjustments used in Diversified are manual adjustments, HVLA (high velocity, low amplitude), or long lever manipulations aimed at cavitating the joint and creating an audible release. This sound is known by patients as the “popping” or “cracking” sound associated with adjustments. Some chiropractors utilize specialized equipment such as drop tables or pelvic blocks.

Chiropractic research relies upon “Diversified methods” or “joint manipulation” rather than more specific methods. It has proven itself to be a worthy method of adjusting over the course of time.

Please call our office today at (504) 340-1234 to learn more about the Diversified Technique or to schedule your appointment today!

Electrotherapy

Electrotherapy is an alternative pain management treatment option that involves the use of mild electromagnetic pulses to provide relief for the patient. This treatment option can dull pain, repair tissue, strengthen muscles, and even improve your blood circulation. Electrotherapy has been known to treat and heal several types of pain including:

  • Chronic pain
  • Migraines and chronic headaches
  • Diabetic nerve pain
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Fibromyalgia
Depending on the underlying issue and type of pain you are experiencing, electrotherapy treatments can improve and ultimately heal the injured or impaired area of your body and has even been proven to provide relief during wound healing and stimulate bone growth. There are several types of electrotherapy treatments (with the most common being transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, or TENS) that all use different versions of the same underlying technology.

Electrotherapy is conducted through the use of a battery-powered device with wires that are connected to several small, adhesive electrode pads. These adhesive pads are placed on the affected area, and once the device is turned on, the pads are used to transmit the electric current via the electrode and onto the skin to stimulate the problem area and provide relief.

The devices are designed with concealment in mind, and can easily be tucked away and hidden on the user’s body to provide relief during daily activities. Newer designs of the device utilize a hand-held controller that can adjust the stimulation without the use of wires. Electrotherapy is often prescribed in addition to other treatment options and primarily used to help alleviate pain for individuals participating in rehabilitation plans like physical therapy.

If you are interested in learning more about electrotherapy or seeing if it could be the right pain management treatment for you, call us today at (504) 340-1234 to request an appointment.

Intersegmental Traction

Intersegmental traction chiropractic therapy helps to increase your mobility and improve your balance and strength by stretching your back ligaments and muscles, thus reestablishing your spine’s range of motion. This relaxing therapy is done using an intersegmental traction table, also known as a Spinalator Table. The electronic dual roller is set into the table and moves up and down the muscles on both sides of your spine to gently mobilize your spinal column and stretch your back muscles and spinal joints.

Intersegmental traction chiropractic therapy can be used to:

  • Reduce back pain, muscle spasms, and spinal subluxations
  • Improve blood circulation and oxygen delivery to various parts of your spine (discs, ligaments, and back muscles)
  • Promote muscle relaxation and comfort

This type of chiropractic therapy has also been proven to quicken the recovery period for back injuries and those suffering from back pain caused by trauma, stress, or age. This machine works wonders in relaxing your body and is often used alongside other chiropractic therapies.

If you are interested in learning more about intersegmental traction or to see if this treatment is right for you, call us today at (504) 340-1234 to request an appointment.

Exercise Rehabilitation

Here at Barataria Chiropractic, we do not chase pain. It is important to understand that often times where the pain presents is not the area that needs to be treated. The pain may be due to that area compensating and being over-worked from another area not pulling its weight. Our rehabilitation program includes strength, flexibility and agility training as well as training focused on coordination of body parts and motion to prepare the individual to return to full participation.

This comprehensive and consistent approach works to retrain muscles, restore joint function, and prevent recurring injuries and doctor visits. Additionally, we will equip our patients with innovative techniques for maintaining proper posture, improving lifting mechanics or workouts, and determining “Do's and Don'ts” related to certain jobs or daily activities. The effectiveness of this treatment protocol depends on the patient's commitment to their therapeutic exercises and following the doctor’s recommendations. Improving the patient’s function, as opposed to simply managing the symptoms, can have a significant impact on injury reduction. Chiropractic adjustments make people feel better, but appropriate rehabilitation is essential for long-term positive outcomes.
